BODY FOR LIFE - 12 WEEKS CHALLANGE |
|
THE CHALLANGE
It was around 1985 that I was fit and
fine. Since then I have started smoking, quit smoking,
had many Gin Tonics, beer and other alcohol not to
mention all the lovely junk food. During those last 20
years I have managed to gain about 20 kg at liest. It
was therfor not a pretty sight and no wander the girls
where not gathering around me.

When I moved here to New Zealand in
april last year I was around 100 kg. I had though lost
about 5 of them back but still, I was very unfit. It was
about time to do a general cleaning in my body and get
rid of the booze and rubbish food.
Me and my flatmate, Baddi, there for
decided to register for the BODY FOR LIFE competition.
To keep our mind focused we made a bet and the prize for
the winner would be a flight ticket to Australia, one
way.
For the past 12 weeks I have there for
woken up at 5 every morning to join the gym before I go
to Rotorua for work. I can just tell you that it has
been very difficult but yet, very rewarding after you
finish the gym. We trained 6 times a week and during
those 12 weeks I only lost out on 2 trainings.
All food was bought on Sundays and
cooked and prepacked for the freezer to be used during
the week. Everything was accoring to the book.
Anyway, to make a long story short I
lost 16 kg and have probably not been so fit sinze the
early 80’s. Following is the results:
|
|

After |

|
Waist measurement |

When we started this competition I had
no hope to win as Baddi was 121 kg and would shorly
loose more than me. But it came obvious in the first 3
weeks that he had no answer to my hard training and it
was a sweet and easy victory. Australia here I come.
Just wondering who will pay my ticket back.
TRIATHLON
To
get some more challenge in this we decided to register
for the TINMAN Triathlon which is held here at the
mount. We did the sprint, which is 750 meters of
swimming in pilot bay, 20 km of bicycling and 5,5 km og
running. I finished this in 98 minutes and was a bout 4
minutes ahead of Baddi so again, I won the young guy.
Not bad for somone in his fortys.
I have made a
video of this which you
can see here and the
pictures
are here.

ICELANDIC TEXT ON A DVD HERE IN NZ |
|

Me and my flatmate rented a DVD last
night which we do quite often. It is called The pacifier
and is a typical Walt Disney movie where the bad guys
are seriously punished in the end. We however where very
surpriced in the beginning when we saw what choices we
had. One of the languages we could chooce from was
Icelandic. Yes very true. Icelandic here in New Zealand.
We therefore watched the movie with Icelandic sub titles
as you can see on the attached pictures. This is the
Icelandic way for kids to learn english, even before
they start learning in school. |

FINALLY I HAVE MY INTERNET IN HAMILTON |
|
Finally
I have an internet here in Hamilton, but I rented a
small studeo room in center of town.During the past 2
weeks I have mainly been here in Hamilton. Haven't
actually been in Tauranga for 3 weeks during weekend
untill last one.
Last weekend The Social club at Mainzeal
organized a great party here in Hamilton. People
attended in costumes and other great outfits. Fortune
teller was at the event and I got a lot of cards showing
anger. hmmmmm. No matter how often I went to her, it was
always the same showing up. During the evening I changed
places with her and became the fortune teller my self. I
did an excellent job according to everyone around me and
was freequently asked why i was wasting my time as a
site supervisor. I am going to study this special gift
that I have for the future and just wait untill next
years event. I took some pictures and they can be seen
on my picture site. However, I
did not dare to publish the karaoke videos of our
bosses, but will use them as a weapon in my next
agociations about salories ;)
Othervise, job is going well here in
Hamilton and some of the tasks I have been dooing are a
real challange, like the wash water tank down at the
"bottom". We will place the concrete for that slab next
Friday. I have taken some photos of the site and they
can be seen at my picture site. |

HOUSEWARMING PARTY IN HAMILTON |
|
This weekend
was the first that I had to work on a Saturday since I
was moved here to Hamilton. I therefore stayed here
during Friday night wich fitted perfectly as Tara, my
work colligue was having a houswarming party with her
flatmates. It was a very typical New Zealand party held
in the garage where the owners bring some meet and
drinks but every one must bring something with them as a
plate, beer or what ever. This i sthen gathered at one
table and anyone can drink what ever there is on the
table. It was a great party with a lot of people. Rangi,
one of the flatmates where in a really good mood this
evening and could not stop dancing. I have prepared a
video of his moves which I would like to call THE RANGI
EPISODES. You
can
see the video here. I have also made some pictures
which you can see at my picture
site. |

ROUND TABLE TAURANGA XMAS DO |
|
This
weekend Tauranga Table met for a midwinter Xmas do. It
was held in Mount Maunganui Golf club. Everyone brought
gifts of a valu of ca $5 dollars to place under the Xmas
tree. Food is great and prices at the bar very low. When
the presents are opened some get more exited than
others. The rule is that you can choose any gift that is
under the tree and any gift that has been opened. It is
there for a lot of trading and some get to open more
than one gift as their gifts have been taken.
I took some
pictures of the event and they are on my
pictures site.
I am still
working in Hamilton and do not know if I will stay or
go. Some have told me that I will be staying there
trough out the duration of the contract which is untill
march next year. I really like the project that I am
working on and am getting more and more involved but I
really do not want to move over there. It is much colder
there, especially during nights and I have never, ever
before had to sleep in a fleece jumber during a night
due to the cold. Brrrrrrrr. Well we see what happens.
I have also
added on my picture site some
pictures of our visit to auckland to se the Lions play
the All blacks and from our fielddays and party in
Hamilton. |

DRIVERS LICENCE |
|
Not
so long time ago I went to insure my car. I found out
that as I only had Icelandic licence the insurances
where much higher than if I had NZ licence. I there for
decided to take the test, even though I had been driving
on the roads around the world for over 23 years.
I bought the
book needed which is called "The official New Zealand
Road Code for car drivers". It as an easy book to read
and it has all questions that we can get at the test,
and even the answers. It should have been a piece of
cake but inspite of that I had 2 answers wrong out of
the 3 I was allowed to.
Anyway, some
time later I went to the driving test it self. It was
strange to sit in a car with an examiner taking your
driving test at the age of 41. The worst about the test
it self was trying to keep under the speed limit.
Usually you just follow the traffic on the road but in
this case you had to concentrade on not exceeding the
speed limits. I got an notice as I never looked over my
sholder to the "blind" side but hey, I passed. This ment
that I got an insurance of about 120 NZ$ a year which is
pretty good. Same insurance in Iceland would cost about
1.200 $ or ten times more. What a great country this is.
I made a
video last week before the soccer game between my team
Fylkir and Baddi's team Grindavík. Ofcousre my team won,
even though it was a bit of a luck. the
video is
here. |

HAMILTON AND THE LIONS GAME |
|
 For the next
4 weeks I will be living in Hamilton during weekdays. I
will be going on a job there until I start in Rotorua
July 1st. on the event center which is a 25m$ job. Should
be very interesting and a big learning process for me.
Me and Baddi
went to Rotorua last Saturday to see Bay of Plenty play
the British Lions. It was a good game where The Bay
played a good game inspite of loosing with some 12 goals.
I lost Baddi the first minute that we arrived and didn't
find him until at liest an hour after the game. He went
piing and it took so long that I wondered away some how.
We had tickets side by side so I decided to meet him
inside but staff pointed us to 2 different locations
resulting that we never met. The worst thing is that I
had his bag with all his warm cloths meaning that he was
freezing. I tryed several times to call him but heard
his phone at last ringing in his bag, which I had.
But, we both
got home safe, even though this probably resulted that
we never made it to the nighlife on Saturday. |

GOCART WITH MAINZEAL |
|

It's been a while since I updated my english version of
the homepage. I have added new articles on the Icelandic
one about once a week but as I have not had any pictures
to publish I got lazy on you english speaking people.
Life here in Tauranga is fantastic as usual. We have had
the most rains in years. During 24 hours last week we
had 310 mm rain and in total this month it is up to
about 570 mm which is about 60% of the yearly rain in
Iceland.
Mike handed over the building at Bay Central about 2
weeks ago and we have been doing some paperwork to
finish up. I hope to know next week what my next project
will be.
Last Friday the Social committee of Mainzeal organized A
GOCART for the staff and theirs partners. It was an
evening of big competition where we had 3 teams of 4
members each. We drove 2x 80 rounds or 2x20 rounds each.
My team was 2nd in first round and 1st in second round
giving us an overall result of 1st place. It was a good
evening and I am looking forward to the next one. I had
my camera with me and took some pictures which can be
seen at my picture site.
A week ago we went down town on a friday evening. It was
someting not planned but when Thor and Trond Magne came
by we couldn't resist. I took some photes wich also
can be seen at my
pitures site. |

VISITS AT GINFAN.COM WERE 17.562 IN FEBRUARY |
|

For the first 3 months of this year,
visits to my homepage have increased enourmesly. Last
year I got as an average 41 visits per day where 18th of
August had the most visits of 886. For the beginning of
this year I have however had 368 visits per day as an
averege where February was the biggest month with 17.562
visits and 7th of February the biggest day with 4.357
visits.
But why is the page counter then not
recording this. hmmmm
It's a very simple reason for this.
During our stay here in NZ we have been making a lot of
silly videos and pictures wich sites like
batman,
tilveran,
and
humor
have linked on to. One pictures that
B2.is
linked to was viewed 7.939 times in february alone.
When you get links on the above sites you
pretty soon get links onto other simular sites around
the world. For instant my page was viewed in 101
countries in February alone.
Following are some of the pages that have
links on to my homepage.
http://search.singingfish.com
http://www.readcn.com
http://www.coolios.net
http://www.forpsi.com
http://www.win.it/musica/h/haka.html
http://funnyray.web-log.nl/
http://www.tctv.ne.jp/uoainii/
I could contienu like this but will stop
here.
You can see an overview of visits to my
site here or on the picture above.
It would be great to see simular stats
from
Baddi's homepage as he probably has links from more
sites that I do.

WE ON A RADIO INTERVIEW AT FM 106,8 |
|

We went to Hamilton last Saturday to
watch The Chiefs play the Sharks. We obviously bring
good luck as this is only the second game that we win
this season.
When we went home to our Backpackers we
met 2 men in the living room and starting talking to
them. We spoke about Iceland, New Zealand, our trip
around the world and other things. We found out that
they had a radio show in Hamilton and asked us to come
for an interview the following morning. We accepted the
invitation, as we had never become so famous before.
The interview it self took about 30
minutes where we spoke much about Iceland and it's
history as well as the 2 Cod wars with the Pommes in the
70's and much more. It was fun to participate in this as
we had never done anything like it before. |

COMPUTER IS BACK AND THE EASTERN WEEKEND |
|

Finally my computer is back so I can
hopefully start to update my website more often. It took
almost 4 weeks to repair as the spare part was not
available in NZ.
During the Eastern weekend we went up to
the Bay of Islands to Kerikeri to visit our friend Pedro
and go to Tracy's birthday party. It was one of the
greatest weekends we have had. Amongst other things that
happened was that during the Friday we went Kite
surfing. Or that was what we where gong to do. After
half an hours of setting up the gear I went for it. I
was really goping to show my great skills but as usual I
blew it. The wind was to much and I lost control giving
me scratches and bruses. It was there for only about 10
seconds of Kitesurfing after all this prepairation. I
will not give it anouther try unless with a skilled
teacher.
During saturday I got to try a Motorcross
bike which I have not done since I broke my collar bone
about 20 years ago. It was a great thrill and I was the
only one that managed to get the bike stuck in mud as
you can see on the
pictures. (Easter II)
On Sunday we went up to the top of NZ to
the sand dunctions on the 90 mile beach where we went
Sandboarding. What a great thrill. It is one of the more
exiting things I have experienced and my 2 trips down
the mountain where well worth the 5 hour drive both
ways. I have made a
video of
this which you can view here.
Other pictures from this weekend are on
Baddi's picturepage and are marked with easter I,
II, III, IV
Next weekend we are going to Hamilton to
see a game with The chiefs in the Super 12.
NEW HOMEPAGES
I want to point out 2 nerw homepage I
have added links to. They are of my oncles
Biggi and
Viktor. The are both great mucicians that have been
writing theyre own music. Please fell free to go their
pages and listen to their music |

ICELANDIC REUNION IN NEW ZEALAND |
|

This weekend we went to a Icelandic
reunion close to Wakatane. We got information last
thursday that Icelandairs living in New Zealand where
gathering this weekend so we immediately changed our
plans.
Most of them had been living here for
10-25 years exept for 2 girls that came 1 and 3 years
ago. All of them came here becourse they met a partner
from NZ and moved down with them. On Friday evening I
was the only one from Reykjavík, as many of the girls
had been working in fish factories around the costs of
Iceland. We at liest, seemed to be the only Icelandairs
that are here becourse of work but not becourse of our
partners. This was a great weekend with a great group of
people as can be expected from Icelandairs.
During the Saturday we went to the beach
where I unpacked my Kite and tryed to practice. It did
not go very well and I found out that my skills are of a
very low level. There will be lessons ordered next
weekend for sure. Baddi took 2 videos while I was
practicing and you can
watch them here.
My new work has been going well. It
starts slowly and I am doing some final adjustments in
projects that are beeing handed over. Also I am at a
building site in Tauranga where Prefabricated concrete
elements are beeing erected as well as steel frames.
This is to get to know the system they are using and
what reports to do, but there is a big effort made in
notes and written reports.
Pictures for the weekend are at
Baddis pictures site. |

BACK IN TAURANGA |
|

Finally
I am back in Tauranga after 2 months away. I will start
working at Mainzeal on Tuesday 1st of March and am
looking forward to it.
I have travelled for 2 weeks on the way down here as you
can read below. I can only say that it is great go be
back. I already feel like home here and when the weather
is like this there is nothing better than going down on
the beach as this pictures shows. There was a turnament
in Beach wolleyball and ofcourse the most interesting
competition was the womens. Not that they where playing
very well but we enjoyed the view.
At the momemt Me and Baddi are living at
5/40 Maunganui road, by the mount, but are looking for
an appartment close to the center of Tauranga or the
Strand. This place is very small for the 2 of us and we
would like to be closer to the pubs this time as we have
already tryed living here at the mount last winter.
Anyway, I have added alot of pictures on
my pictures site from the trip.
Also there is a video I made on Saturday about life on
the beach here by The Mount under videos.
As I have to send my computer for repair
I will not update the homepage for a week or so.
Untill then. Have fun. |

THE REST OF THE TRIP |
|
 Hi
again. Finally I am able to write few things about the
rest of my trip. I have had time to write few short
articles in Icelandic so far but have not made
time for the english site. Sorry about that.
However, I went to London for few days
where I met My oncle Birgir and Baddi dropped by
also on his way to NZ. I spent 3 days there wondering
about and the most interesting thing was the Greenwich
middle line, but it goes trough London.
After London I went to Beijing via Hong
Kong. I stayed there for 3 days and 4 nights doing tours
every day. First I went to the Forbidden city and
Tiananmen square. On the square I was almost arrested
for taking pictures of my brothers Company flag,
Eyjablikk. I had taken pictures of my soccer team flag
and that seemed not to be a probleme but immediately
when I took the other one up a police men came. As he is
looking at my flag 2 soldiers came to support him, armed
with hand guns. It took me a while to convince him that
I was not protesting anything and had to show ID to
proove that I was from this very small and innocent
island called Iceland up in the far north. It made
things even worse that no one of them spoke english.
This was for sure the coldest day of the trip and even
though it was only about -5°C there whas alot of wind.
This day felt at liest much colder than the -13°C on new
years eve Iceland.
The day after I went to the Great China
wall. Woow. What an achievement on those years it was
built. Over 5000 km in those steep mountains is amazing.
By the end of the last day I orderd Chineese massage in
my hotel room. Damit, it was a great end on a good trip,
and the girl who massaged me was young and pretty 20
year old. After thisw I went to Hong Kong for 30 hours.
Went on 2 tours with guides and this is for sure the
city with most skyrise I have ever seen. Small towers
with only 1-2 flats very floor up to 50-80 floors.
Amazing. |

HORSENS IN DENMARK THIS WEEKEND |
|

Hi everyone. I have started my trip to NZ
and was in Horsens in Denmark this weekend. We held a
meeting in our Gin Club LORD DILLON and inducted a new
member. Ofcourse he had to go trough varoius riddles
before he was accepted and we started the Gin Tasting.
The theme for the evening was chineese cloths, as I had
suits made for Me and Gummi in Tailand on the way home.
Tomorrow I am going to London to meet my
oncle Birgir and will stay there untill Thursday, when I
go to Hong Kong. I have not yet bought the flight to
Beijing but hope to fix it in London while beeing there.
Also I have not booked any hotels but I am sure that it
can be fixed in China. |

MY LAST WEEKEND IN ICELAND |
|
 This
weekend is my last one in Iceland for a while. I have
been working here for the past 4 weeks as a carpenter
but Last Friday was my last day. I am then starting my
travel to New Zealand Thursday February the 10th. when
I'm going to Denmark and staying for 4 days with friends
in Horsens, where the School is. I will then fly over to
London and stay for 3 days before I go to Hong kong and
Beijing where I am going to stay for about 6 days. I
will then arrive in NZ 24th of Febryuary. It has been a
great stay here and every weekend has been used to have
drinks with friends and check out the night life.
This weekend there was held a family
feast with old icelandic food. Those are amongs others
head of a lamb, testicles of a lamb and rotten shark.
After that I went down town with Baddi and his friends
where we went to NASA, one of the more popular dance
palces in Iceland. Ofcourse I had my camera and you
check the pictures out on my
picture site |
